Modi, Mauritius PM Meet In Varanasi, Uttarakhand Flood Review

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is hosting Mauritian Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam in Varanasi on September 11, 2025. The two leaders will meet at around 11:30 AM to discuss bilateral cooperation in areas such as health, education, infrastructure, renewable energy, and the blue economy. The Mauritian leader is on a state visit from September 9 to 16.

Aerial Survey Of Flood-Affected Regions

Later in the day, PM Modi is scheduled to travel to Dehradun in Uttarakhand to conduct an aerial survey of areas devastated by monsoon floods. This survey is set for approximately 4:15 PM, followed by a high-level meeting at 5:00 PM to assess relief work and plan further action.

Diplomatic Context And Agenda

The meeting builds on earlier developments, including Modi’s visit to Mauritius in March 2025, when both nations elevated their ties to an “Enhanced Strategic Partnership.” Emphasis during this visit is on development partnerships, capacity building, and cooperation in emerging sectors like digital infrastructure and maritime strategy under India’s MAHASAGAR vision and the “Neighbourhood First” policy.

Local Preparations And River Levels

In Varanasi, a cleanliness drive has been underway ahead of the leaders’ arrival. Authorities have also made special arrangements for traffic, security, and sanitation. Meanwhile, the Ganga river at Varanasi remains above warning levels, which will limit visibility of the lower ghats during Ganga Aarti for the Mauritian PM, who will view it from a cruise liner.
