Modi Marks National Space Day, Hails India’s Progress

On August 23, Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the nation on the occasion of National Space Day. He praised India’s progress in space exploration, noting that the country has successfully reached both the Moon and Mars. Modi said India’s achievements in semi-cryogenic engine technology and electric propulsion reflect its growing confidence as a space power.

Recognition for Astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla

During his address, Modi recalled his recent meeting with Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, who became India’s first astronaut to travel to the International Space Station (ISS) as part of the Axiom-4 mission. Shukla presented Modi with the mission patch and shared photographs of Earth taken from space. The Prime Minister described the meeting as a proud moment for the nation and congratulated him for inspiring young Indians.

Celebrating India’s Space Heritage

National Space Day is being observed with the theme “Bridging the Past and Future.” As part of the celebrations, an “Aryabhata Gallery” has been inaugurated at the Nehru Planetarium in Delhi. The exhibition highlights India’s scientific journey from ancient astronomical traditions to modern missions like Chandrayaan-3.

Cabinet Resolution

The Union Cabinet also passed a resolution commending Shubhanshu Shukla for his historic mission. Officials described his achievement as a turning point that strengthens India’s ambitions for future human spaceflight, including the upcoming Gaganyaan programme.

Inspiring the Next Generation

Modi emphasized that India’s space journey is not only about technology but also about inspiring the country’s youth to dream big. He said India’s space scientists have transformed the nation into a global space power, and the coming years will see even more ambitious missions.
