Modi And Meloni Push India-EU Trade Pact, Ukraine Peace

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni held a phone call on September 10, 2025. They discussed accelerating the India-EU free trade agreement (FTA), thanked Italy for its support, and reviewed progress on other strategic cooperation.

Ukraine Conflict

Both leaders expressed concern over the ongoing war in Ukraine. They reaffirmed their commitment to efforts aimed at achieving an early and peaceful resolution of the conflict. India reiterated full support for diplomatic and negotiation channels.

Strategic Initiatives

Modi and Meloni also discussed the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC) initiative, aiming to improve connectivity across regions. Modi thanked Meloni for Italy’s proactive backing of the India-EU FTA and for supporting other joint infrastructure and investment projects.

Bilateral Ties And Future Plans

During the conversation, both leaders affirmed the strong India-Italy Strategic Partnership. They reviewed cooperation in areas including trade, defence, counter-terrorism, science and technology, education, and people-to-people ties. They agreed to work toward concluding the FTA by end of the year and to deepen collaboration under IMEEC.
