MK Stalin Backs Sudershan Reddy to Defend Constitution
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has expressed strong support for Justice B. Sudershan Reddy, the INDIA bloc’s Vice-Presidential nominee. Speaking at a rally in Chennai, Stalin criticized the BJP’s attempt to project its candidate, C.P. Radhakrishnan, as a Tamil choice, calling it a superficial tactic. He said politics should be guided by ideology rather than identity and praised Reddy for his consistent defense of constitutional values and his opposition to policies such as the National Education Policy reforms.
Reddy’s Record and Stand
Justice Reddy, who served on the Supreme Court of India between 2007 and 2011 and later became the first Lokayukta of Goa, reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding constitutional democracy. He highlighted Tamil Nadu’s progress in health, education, and social welfare, saying the state had always stood firmly for federal values. Reddy also cautioned that centralizing measures, including proposed changes in GST, could weaken the federal framework of India.
Responding to Criticism
Answering BJP attacks, Reddy maintained that defending the Constitution is inherently political. He remarked, “To say I have nothing to do with politics is to say I have nothing to do with democracy,” stressing that if elected, he would safeguard democratic principles without compromise.
INDIA Bloc Support
The rally also saw the participation of several prominent INDIA bloc leaders, including T.R. Baalu, Kanimozhi, Vaiko of the MDMK, Thol Thirumavalavan of the VCK, and K. Selvaperunthagai of the TNCC. Their presence was aimed at projecting unity within the alliance and rallying support for Reddy’s candidature.
