Missile Debris Found in Amritsar Amid India-Pakistan Tensions
In the early hours of May 8, residents of Amritsar’s border villages—Jethuwal, Makhan Windi, and Pandher—were startled by loud explosions and flashes of light in the sky. Subsequent power outages intensified the panic. At dawn, villagers discovered metallic debris scattered across fields and rooftops, resembling parts of a missile. Army personnel promptly cordoned off the areas to assess the situation and ensure public safety.
One resident recounted, “Between 1-1:30 AM, several explosions were heard. All houses were shaking, as it happens during an earthquake. When I went to the terrace, I saw something like a grenade launcher.”
Operation Sindoor and Regional Tensions
The incident coincides with heightened tensions following India’s Operation Sindoor, a series of precision strikes targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. These strikes were in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives. While India asserts that the operation targeted terrorist infrastructure, Pakistan has condemned the strikes as acts of aggression.
Official Responses and Safety Measures
Authorities have yet to confirm the origin of the missile debris. SHO Jandiala Harchand Singh Sandhu stated, “It is a portion of a missile. I am ensuring safety measures are followed here.” The Army continues to investigate the debris to determine its source and potential implications.
