Meta Plans 168 MW Data Centre in Gujarat
Meta has expressed interest in establishing a 168-megawatt data centre in Gujarat as the state seeks to become a major destination for artificial intelligence, cloud computing and hyperscale digital infrastructure.
Meta Plans 168 MW Gujarat Data Centre
The Gujarat government has recommended Dholera as a potential location for Meta’s proposed facility. However, the technology company has not yet finalised the site or announced a construction timeline.
The proposal remains at the expression-of-interest stage and will require detailed planning, land allocation and statutory approvals before development can begin.
Dholera is emerging as Gujarat’s preferred destination for large data centres because of its planned infrastructure, availability of large land parcels and potential access to reliable power supplies.
Gujarat Receives ₹8.5 Lakh Crore Proposals
Around 20 companies have submitted proposals for data centre projects with a combined capacity of approximately 10.5 gigawatts. The proposed investments are estimated at nearly ₹8.5 lakh crore.
The list of interested companies includes Reliance, Adani, Tata, Torrent, CtrlS, NexGen, Waaree, Paytm, UPL and Welspun.
Reliance is expected to consider Jamnagar for its data centre campus, while several other companies are examining Dholera for hyperscale facilities.
Gujarat Data Centre Policy Targets 7.5 GW
The proposals exceed the 7.5-gigawatt capacity target outlined in the Viksit Gujarat Data Centre Policy 2026-29.
The policy offers incentives aimed at supporting large investments, reliable electricity supply, faster regulatory approvals and infrastructure development.
The proposed facilities are expected to be commissioned in phases by 2029, subject to approvals and final investment decisions. The projects could significantly expand Gujarat’s digital economy and support growing demand for AI computing, cloud services and data storage.
