Meitei Group Lauds Peace Efforts, Advocates for Gun-Free Manipur

In a significant development towards restoring peace in Manipur, the Meitei organization Arambai Tenggol has expressed profound gratitude to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla for their unwavering commitment to fostering stability in the region. Arambai Tenggol has lauded the recent review meeting chaired by Home Minister Amit Shah, marking the first such meeting since the imposition of President’s Rule in the state. The organization praised the decision to reopen two National Highways, a move aimed at enhancing connectivity and accessibility in Manipur. Support for Disarmament and Anti-Drug Measures

In a move towards a gun-free Manipur, Arambai Tenggol has actively participated in the disarmament process. The group recently surrendered over 600 weapons, demonstrating their commitment to peace and security. They have also expressed support for Governor Bhalla’s firm stance against drug trafficking and his vision of making Manipur a drug-free state. Security forces have intensified operations to recover looted and illegally held weapons. In the past ten days, 690 firearms have been surrendered to authorities, with the latest batch comprising 62 arms. These weapons, along with a significant amount of ammunition, have been deposited with police and security forces across various districts, including Imphal West, Churachandpur, Imphal East, Bishnupur, and Tamenglong.

Additionally, security personnel have destroyed 15 acres of illegal poppy plantations in the Tengnoupal district and dismantled five illegal bunkers in the Kangpokpi and Imphal East districts. These actions align with the broader goal of eradicating drug trafficking and ensuring the safety of local communities.
