Meerut RRTS Becomes India’s Fastest Metro
India’s fastest metro service has begun operations in Meerut under the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), offering speeds of up to 120 km per hour. The high-speed corridor is designed to significantly reduce travel time between key urban centres in the National Capital Region.
120 Kmph Speed On Meerut RRTS Corridor
The Meerut RRTS trains are capable of running at a top operational speed of 120 km per hour, making them the fastest metro-style commuter trains currently operating in India. The rapid rail system is part of a larger semi-high-speed transit network aimed at connecting Delhi with surrounding cities.
The advanced train sets are equipped with modern signalling systems, automated doors, and enhanced safety features to support higher speeds while ensuring passenger safety.
Three-Coach Train Configuration Explained
At present, the Meerut RRTS service is operating with three-coach train sets. These trains are fully air-conditioned and designed to handle high passenger volumes efficiently. The coaches include both standard and premium seating sections to cater to different categories of commuters.
The three-coach configuration allows flexibility during the initial phase of operations, with scope for expansion as ridership increases.
Delhi-Meerut Travel Time Reduced
The RRTS corridor is expected to drastically cut travel time between Delhi and Meerut, boosting regional connectivity and easing road congestion. Once the full corridor is operational, commuters will be able to travel between the two cities in under an hour.
The project is being developed to support urban mobility, economic activity, and sustainable transportation across the National Capital Region.
