Massive Manipur Crackdown Seizes 203 Weapons and Explosives
A significant security operation was conducted in Manipur’s hill districts between the night of July 3 and early July 4, resulting in the seizure of a vast arsenal of weapons and explosive devices. Joint forces comprising Manipur Police, Assam Rifles, the Indian Army, and Central Armed Police Forces carried out the coordinated raids across Tengnoupal, Kangpokpi, Chandel, and Churachandpur districts.
Major Arms Haul Across Districts
Authorities recovered a total of 203 weapons, including:
- 21 INSAS rifles, 11 AK-series rifles, and 26 self-loading rifles
- 2 sniper rifles, 3 carbines, 17 .303 rifles, and 2 mortars
- 2 MA assault rifles and 3 M79 grenade launchers
- Additional pistols, muzzle-loaders, and locally made firearms
Large Cache of Explosives Found
The raids also unearthed a substantial cache of explosive materials:
- 30 improvised explosive devices (IEDs)
- 10 hand grenades and 2 lathode grenades
- Significant ammunition supplies: 29 rounds of 5.56 mm and 80 rounds of 7.62 mm
Strategic Blow to Insurgency
Security officials described the confiscation as a “substantial blow” to militant groups operating in the area. Enhanced intelligence collaboration and precision coordination among central and state agencies were instrumental in the success of these operations—marking one of the most significant weapon seizures in the region since ethnic unrest began in May 2023.
Security Reinforced, Community Cautioned
In light of the operation, authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. A follow-up sweep is planned to dismantle any remaining stockpiles and strengthen peace-building measures. This operation underscores the government’s commitment to restoring stability and rebuilding trust in Manipur’s affected hill districts.
