Mass Shooting At Illegal Bar Near Pretoria
Eleven people were killed in a shooting at an illegal bar operating inside a hostel outside Pretoria, South Africa. Police said the attack took place early in the morning when three armed men entered the premises and opened fire on people inside.
Children Among The Victims
Among the dead were three minors: a three-year-old boy, a 12-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl. Ten victims died at the scene, while one person passed away later in hospital. Fourteen others were injured and are receiving treatment. Police said the gunmen fired randomly before fleeing.
Manhunt And Motive Under Investigation
Authorities have launched a manhunt for the attackers. Their identities are not yet known, and police are still investigating the motive behind the shooting. Officers said they were collecting CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses to trace the suspects.
Illegal Taverns Linked To Violence
Police confirmed that the establishment was an unlicensed bar. Illegal drinking venues, known as shebeens, have been linked to violent incidents in several parts of the country. Officials said they have been conducting crackdowns on such places as part of efforts to reduce crime. South Africa continues to face high levels of gun violence, and experts say easy access to illegal firearms remains a major problem.
