Marco Rubio Says US Got Positive Iran Message
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the United States has privately received encouraging messages from Iran, raising hopes in Washington that there may be room for engagement with parts of the Iranian establishment. His remarks suggest the US believes divisions are emerging within Iran’s leadership at a time of continuing tension over Tehran’s nuclear programme.
Rubio Says US Got Positive Message From Iran
Speaking on Monday, Rubio said the US had received private signals from Iran that he described as positive. He said there were visible internal fractures within the Islamic republic and expressed hope that figures who are both willing to engage and capable of delivering decisions would gain influence. His comments point to a belief in Washington that some Iranian officials may now be more open to communication than in the past.
US Hopes Iranian Figures With Power Step Forward
Rubio said some people inside Iran were speaking to the United States in ways that previous Iranian leaders had not. He suggested that certain elements within the government were showing a readiness to consider steps that earlier leadership groups had not been willing to discuss. While he did not identify any individuals or institutions, his remarks signalled that the US sees an opportunity in Iran’s internal divisions.
Rubio Repeats US Stand On Iran Nuclear Issue
Despite the more hopeful tone on private contacts, Rubio also repeated Washington’s broader criticism of Iran. He said the aim of the military campaign was to end Iran’s capacity to build nuclear weapons. He also echoed President Donald Trump’s earlier claim that the US attack last year had already achieved major damage to that capability. The comments show that even as diplomatic signals emerge, the US position remains centred on preventing Iran from rebuilding its nuclear infrastructure.
