Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said major progress was achieved during mediated talks in Switzerland, with Pakistan and Qatar playing a key role in efforts to reduce tensions between Iran and the United States.

Araghchi said mediation by Pakistan and Qatar had helped move discussions forward on several major issues, including efforts to end the conflict in Lebanon, ease restrictions on oil and petrochemical exports, and release some frozen Iranian assets.

He also said progress had been made on lifting the naval blockade and launching a reconstruction and development plan for Iran. The comments came after the first round of high-level talks at the Lake Lucerne Summit in Switzerland.

Pakistan Qatar Mediation In Focus

Pakistan and Qatar said the first day of talks took place in a positive and constructive atmosphere. The mediators said both sides had agreed to continue technical discussions through a structured mechanism.

A high-level committee will oversee the political track of the mediation process. It will receive reports from lead negotiators and supervise working groups focused on Iran’s nuclear programme, sanctions-related issues and dispute resolution.

Strait Of Hormuz Talks Continue

The talks also produced a roadmap aimed at reaching a final agreement within 60 days. A communication channel has been established between the parties to prevent misunderstandings and avoid incidents during the negotiation period.

One major focus is the safe passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route. The next round of technical talks is expected to test whether the reported progress can be converted into a durable agreement.
