Maharashtra to Establish India’s First Dedicated Artificial Intelligence University

In a significant move to advance technological education, Maharashtra is set to establish India’s first dedicated Artificial Intelligence (AI) university. State Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil announced the formation of a committee tasked with overseeing the university’s development, aiming to position Maharashtra as a leader in AI education and innovation.

The proposed AI university will offer specialized programs designed to equip students with advanced skills in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and related technologies. This initiative reflects the state’s commitment to fostering a skilled workforce capable of contributing to the rapidly evolving tech industry.

This development follows the recent establishment of Universal AI University in Karjat, Maharashtra, which commenced its academic programs in August 2023. As India’s first dedicated AI university, Universal AI University offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral courses across various disciplines, all integrated with AI components. The institution aims to provide a transformative educational experience, preparing students to excel in the burgeoning field of artificial intelligence.

The establishment of these institutions underscores Maharashtra’s proactive approach in embracing emerging technologies and enhancing educational infrastructure. By focusing on AI education, the state aims to cultivate a talent pool that can drive innovation and contribute to India’s position in the global technology landscape.
