Maharashtra Clears Forest Land for Adani Projects
The Maharashtra government has approved diversion of nearly 83,700 sq ft of forest land for two projects linked to Adani Group companies in Raigad and Amravati. The approvals cover land required for a proposed cement terminal and an underground natural gas pipeline network.
Adani Cementation Gets Raigad Forest Land
The larger approval covers 0.6497 hectare, or nearly 70,000 sq ft, of land in Shahapur and Shahabaz villages in Alibag taluka of Raigad district.
The area includes reserved forest as well as nala, creek and mangrove forest land. It will be used by Adani Cementation Limited for infrastructure associated with its proposed Raigad Cement Bulk Terminal.
The project includes facilities such as a berthing jetty, conveyor corridor, backup infrastructure and an approach road.
Adani Total Gas Gets Amravati Clearance
A separate approval covers 0.1281 hectare, or approximately 13,800 sq ft, of forest land in Amravati.
Adani Total Gas Limited plans to use the land for laying an underground steel pipeline as part of its city gas distribution network.
The project is expected to support expansion of piped natural gas and related gas distribution services in Amravati and surrounding areas.
Maharashtra Diverts Forest Land for Two Projects
Together, the two approvals cover around 0.78 hectare of forest land.
The Raigad clearance is significant as part of the land includes mangrove areas, while the Amravati project involves reserved and identified forest land.
Both projects will remain subject to applicable environmental, forest diversion and regulatory conditions before implementation.
