Maha Kumbh Goes Digital with AI, CCTV, and Drones
The Maha Kumbh 2025, one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, is set to embrace advanced technology to ensure the safety and convenience of millions of pilgrims. Authorities have announced the integration of AI-powered crowd monitoring systems, extensive CCTV coverage, and underwater drones to manage the event seamlessly.
Tech-Driven Crowd Management
The use of technology is at the forefront of this year’s preparations. Around 2,700 CCTV cameras will be installed across key locations to monitor crowd movements in real-time. These cameras, coupled with artificial intelligence (AI) systems, will provide detailed analytics, helping authorities predict potential bottlenecks and manage the flow of devotees efficiently.
An official noted, “The AI system will allow us to identify overcrowding and ensure quick interventions, enhancing the overall safety of attendees.”
Underwater Drones for Ganga Safety
In a first, underwater drones will be deployed in the Ganga River to ensure safety during the ritual baths (Shahi Snan). These drones are equipped with advanced sensors and cameras to monitor underwater activities, detect hazards, and assist in rescue operations if required. This measure aims to prevent accidents and ensure a secure environment for the millions taking a holy dip.
Digital Transformation of Maha Kumbh
The Maha Kumbh is also embracing digital transformation through various apps and online platforms. Pilgrims will have access to real-time information on crowd density, route maps, and event schedules via mobile applications. This digital approach aims to reduce inconvenience and provide a smoother experience for devotees.
The introduction of online registration systems and e-passes will further streamline entry points and reduce on-ground chaos. Additionally, the authorities have planned to use drones for aerial surveillance to monitor larger areas and maintain law and order.
A Historic Gathering Meets Modern Technology
The Maha Kumbh, expected to attract over 150 million devotees from around the world, is being hailed as a fusion of tradition and modernity. Authorities are confident that the integration of technology will not only enhance safety but also highlight India’s capacity for managing large-scale events effectively.
By leveraging AI, CCTV surveillance, and drones, the Maha Kumbh is setting a new benchmark in event management, balancing spiritual fervor with cutting-edge technology. This transformation underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring a secure and enriching experience for all pilgrims attending this sacred gathering.
