Madras High Court Quashes Order on Jana Nayagan

The Madras High Court has set aside a single judge’s order that had directed the Central Board of Film Certification to issue a censor certificate for the Tamil film Jana Nayagan. A division bench ruled that proper legal procedure was not followed before passing the earlier direction.

Court Cites Procedural Lapse

The bench observed that the CBFC was not given adequate opportunity to file its response before the single judge quashed the certification authority’s decision. The court said such matters require due process and detailed hearing from all parties involved.

Matter Sent Back for Fresh Hearing

The High Court has remanded the case to the single judge for fresh consideration, allowing the CBFC to submit its counter-affidavit. The producers have also been granted liberty to amend their petition as part of the renewed proceedings.

Film Release Remains Uncertain

Jana Nayagan, starring actor Vijay, was scheduled for release earlier this month but remains unreleased due to the pending certification issue. The latest ruling means the film’s release will depend on the outcome of the fresh hearing before the single judge.
