Macron Calls For Stronger China-France Ties

French President Emmanuel Macron has called for deeper academic and cultural cooperation between France and China. Speaking during his visit to Sichuan University, he said both countries should increase exchanges in education, research and creative fields to build long-term understanding and trust.

Focus On Student Mobility

Macron highlighted student exchanges as a key element of future cooperation. He encouraged more Chinese students to study in France and set a goal of increasing the number of French students in China to around 10,000 within the next few years. According to him, these exchanges would strengthen language skills, cultural familiarity and professional links.

Culture And Education As Strategic Tools

The French president noted that academic, scientific and cultural programmes are important in shaping bilateral relations. He said cooperation should extend beyond economics and politics to areas such as innovation, environmental research, arts and heritage. Both governments have signalled interest in expanding “people-to-people” connections as part of a broader diplomatic effort.

Broader Context Of Cooperation

The call for renewed engagement comes at a time when France and China are also coordinating on climate goals, trade and global governance issues. By building partnerships between universities, cultural institutions and research organisations, both sides hope to create a stronger foundation for future cooperation.
