Lula Condemns Trump Tariff as ‘Blackmail’
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has slammed the U.S. decision to impose a 50% import duty on Brazilian goods, describing it as “tariff blackmail.” Speaking during a BRICS summit, Lula argued the measure was coercive and harmful to global trade relations.
Warning of Retaliation
Lula warned that Brazil is prepared to respond if the tariffs continue. He said his government would not hesitate to impose reciprocal measures to protect national interests and defend Brazilian exporters.
Call for Multilateral Trade
At the same summit, Lula called for deeper trade integration within BRICS as a counterweight to protectionist pressures. He stressed that stronger cooperation among member nations is necessary to withstand unilateral trade actions.
