L&T Wins Contract for New Army All-Terrain Vehicle
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured a significant contract to manufacture the Indian Army’s new specialised all-terrain armoured vehicle, the BvS10 Sindhu. The project will be executed at L&T’s Hazira facility in Gujarat, with BAE Systems providing technology support as the original developer of the platform. The deal was confirmed through a regulatory filing on November 19, 2025.
Capabilities of the BvS10 Sindhu
The BvS10 Sindhu is designed to operate in extreme environments such as high-altitude regions, deserts, snowfields and marshy terrain. It is a twin-car articulated vehicle offering high mobility, enhanced protection and superior payload capacity. Manufactured under licence in India, the vehicle will improve troop movement and logistics support in some of the Army’s most challenging operational zones.
Strategic Boost for Indigenous Defence
The contract is widely viewed as a milestone for India’s defence manufacturing sector under the Make in India initiative. It increases domestic capacity for advanced combat vehicles and strengthens L&T’s position as a key defence production partner. Analysts say the deal reflects India’s growing emphasis on self-reliance, technology transfer and reduced dependence on foreign imports.
