L&T Wins $2.9 Billion Saudi Aramco Contract for Gas Expansion

Larsen & Toubro (L&T), one of India’s leading engineering and construction firms, has secured a major contract worth $2.9 billion from Saudi Aramco. The project is part of Saudi Arabia’s broader initiative to enhance its natural gas infrastructure, with L&T being entrusted with the expansion of the Jafoor unconventional gas development project. The contract involves the construction of a gas processing plant and additional associated processing facilities, positioning L&T as a key player in the region’s energy sector.

Saudi Aramco has been aggressively expanding its natural gas production as part of its Vision 2030 strategy, which aims to reduce dependence on oil revenues and increase the kingdom’s industrial diversification. The Jafoor project is crucial to these efforts, as it seeks to tap into unconventional gas reserves and strengthen domestic energy security while boosting exports. The investment in gas infrastructure aligns with Saudi Arabia’s push toward cleaner energy alternatives and industrial growth.

For L&T, this contract reinforces its strong footprint in the Middle East and demonstrates the company’s capabilities in handling large-scale infrastructure projects. L&T’s hydrocarbons division has been involved in multiple projects in the Gulf region, focusing on engineering, procurement, and construction services for oil and gas giants. The deal with Saudi Aramco marks one of L&T’s most significant international projects and is expected to contribute to the company’s revenue growth in the coming years.

This contract also highlights India’s growing influence in global energy infrastructure development. As more Indian firms expand their presence in Middle Eastern markets, collaborations with companies like Saudi Aramco signal deeper economic ties between India and the Gulf nations. With the execution of this mega project, L&T is expected to further cement its reputation as a world-class engineering and construction player.
