Lok Sabha Gears Up for ‘Operation Sindoor’ Debate
The Monsoon Session of Parliament is set to witness an intense and high-stakes debate as the Lok Sabha prepares to discuss Operation Sindoor, the government’s military response following the Pahalgam terror attack. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will initiate the debate in the Lower House on Monday, July 28. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected to address the House during the proceedings.
The Opposition is gearing up to question the government on reported intelligence failures that may have allowed the Pahalgam attack to take place. There is also likely to be a sharp response to recent remarks by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who commented on India’s ceasefire stance following the strike.
In what is being described as a marathon session, the Lok Sabha will engage in a 16-hour debate on Monday. This will be followed by a similar debate in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. Home Minister Amit Shah and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar are also expected to participate in the discussions and present the government’s position on national security and diplomacy.
After a week of disruptions in Parliament over procedural disagreements, both the ruling NDA and the opposition INDIA bloc have agreed to hold structured debates on Operation Sindoor. The session is expected to focus not just on military response, but also on internal preparedness, international messaging, and political accountability.
As political temperatures rise, the debate is expected to test the government’s ability to defend its strategic decisions while also offering a platform for the Opposition to corner the Centre on lapses, both real and perceived.
