Litton Das Added to Bangladesh Test Squad
Bangladesh have added wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das to their squad for the opening Test against Australia in Darwin after he recovered from a left calf injury.
Litton Das Returns After Injury
Litton completed his rehabilitation and was declared available for the Test series following a fitness assessment. He is expected to travel to Darwin on Sunday and join the Bangladesh squad ahead of the opening match.
The 31-year-old had been sidelined since June after sustaining the calf injury during the home ODI series against Australia. The injury forced him to miss the subsequent T20 internationals and Bangladesh’s Test against Zimbabwe.
Litton was initially omitted from the Darwin Test squad because selectors were uncertain whether he would recover before the match. His addition strengthens Bangladesh’s middle order and provides another experienced wicketkeeping option.
Bangladesh Strengthen Darwin Test Squad
Litton’s return means Bangladesh will have three wicketkeeping choices in the touring group, with Jaker Ali and Amite Hasan already selected.
Jaker was recalled when Litton appeared unlikely to recover, while Amite retained his place after making his Test debut against Zimbabwe. The team management must now decide whether Litton is ready to resume wicketkeeping duties or play primarily as a batter.
Bangladesh remain without fast bowlers Nahid Rana and Shoriful Islam because of injuries. Their pace attack includes Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Khaled Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain and Musfik Hasan.
Australia Bangladesh Test Series
The first Test will be played in Darwin from August 13 to 17. Bangladesh will prepare with a three-day warm-up match against a Cricket Australia XI before the series opener.
The second Test is scheduled at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay from August 22 to 26. Both matches form part of the ICC World Test Championship.
Litton was also recently appointed Bangladesh’s ODI captain through the 2027 World Cup.
