Leaders Pay Tribute on Partition Remembrance Day

India observed Partition Horrors Remembrance Day today, with key national leaders paying tribute to the millions affected by the 1947 division. The solemn occasion marked reflection on one of the darkest chapters in the nation’s history.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the Partition as a “tragic chapter” and honoured the strength of those who overcame displacement and loss. He praised their resilience, noting how many rebuilt their lives and achieved remarkable milestones. Modi urged citizens to reinforce the unity and harmony that bind the nation together.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also expressed his condolences, blaming the Partition on decisions that hurt the pride of the nation. He condemned the violence and mass displacement, offering heartfelt tribute to those who lost their lives.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh recalled the “horrific consequences” of hatred and violence that followed the division. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening social harmony across the country.

Observed annually on August 14 since 2021, Partition Horrors Remembrance Day honors the struggles, sacrifices, and resilience of millions who suffered during India’s Partition. It stands as a reminder of the need to overcome social divisions and uphold the spirit of unity and empathy.
