Laxman Hails Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Rapid Growth
India interim head coach VVS Laxman has praised Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s rapid development, saying the teenage batter’s maturity and understanding of match situations have improved dramatically during the past six months.
Laxman Praises Sooryavanshi’s Maturity
Laxman said Sooryavanshi’s greatest progress was visible in his game awareness rather than only his batting technique. The coach highlighted the 15-year-old’s ability to assess situations, learn from setbacks and adjust his approach under pressure.
Sooryavanshi endured a difficult start to his international career during India’s tour of England. However, he responded strongly in Zimbabwe and demonstrated greater control while retaining the attacking style that earned him national recognition.
Laxman said the teenager consistently reflects on his performances and attempts to improve during training sessions. He also praised Sooryavanshi’s willingness to play through discomfort and contribute to the team.
Sooryavanshi Stars Against Zimbabwe
The left-handed opener finished the three-match T20I series with 151 runs at an average of 50.33. He recorded two half-centuries as India completed a 3-0 series sweep.
Sooryavanshi scored 50 from 19 deliveries in the opening match, helping India chase Zimbabwe’s 126-run target with 40 balls remaining. After making 20 from nine balls in the second game, he produced a more measured 81 from 49 deliveries in the series finale.
His final-match innings helped India post 192 for five before the bowlers restricted Zimbabwe to 157 for seven, securing a 35-run victory.
Fitness Remains Key Development Area
Sooryavanshi received both the Player of the Match and Player of the Series awards following the final T20I.
While impressed by his batting and temperament, Laxman identified overall fitness as an important area for further improvement. He said the youngster possessed the ability and determination required to break international records but needed continued development to sustain his career at the highest level.c
