Ladakh Police Probe Pakistan Link with Wangchuk – Report

Ladakh’s Director General of Police, Dr. S. D. Singh Jamwal, told to NDTV that the police recently arrested a Pakistan Intelligence Operative (PIO) who was allegedly in contact with Sonam Wangchuk and passing information back to Pakistan. He confirmed that a detailed investigation is in progress.

Arrest & Charges

According to police sources, the PIO was detained during a broader crackdown linked to the recent unrest in Leh. Authorities claim to have communication records suggesting links between the operative and Wangchuk. The matter is being probed to determine the extent of alleged foreign involvement.

Context: Ladakh Protests & Wangchuk’s Detention

The developments come after violent protests in Leh on September 24, 2025, demanding statehood and constitutional safeguards for Ladakh. At least four people were killed in clashes and several injured. Following the violence, Wangchuk was arrested on charges of incitement, while his NGO SECMOL’s FCRA licence was cancelled.

Foreign Funding Under Scrutiny

The Ministry of Home Affairs has initiated a probe into SECMOL’s financial transactions. Investigators are examining whether foreign contributions were received without proper clearance, alongside the alleged PIO connection.

Caution & Denials

The DGP described the Pakistan link as a “serious lead” but underlined that the investigation is ongoing. Wangchuk and his supporters strongly deny any foreign collusion, calling the allegations politically motivated. No independent evidence has yet been placed in the public domain.
