Kremlin Says Committed to Peace After Trump’s New Deadline
The Kremlin has responded to U.S. President Donald Trump’s latest ceasefire deadline by stating that Russia remains committed to achieving peace in Ukraine, but will continue its military operations for now. The comment came after Trump reduced his proposed window for a ceasefire from 50 days to just 10–12 days, suggesting growing impatience over the ongoing conflict.
According to Russian officials, the country has “taken note” of Trump’s revised timeline but has not agreed to any binding schedule. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov reiterated that Russia’s military campaign—referred to by Moscow as a “special operation”—will continue until its stated goals are met.
Russia Stands Firm on Its Conditions
Russia’s conditions for peace remain unchanged. It wants Ukraine to cede control of certain territories, abandon NATO ambitions, and significantly reduce its defense capabilities. These demands have been rejected outright by Ukraine and most of the international community.
Even as Russia claims to support a negotiated solution, its actions on the ground suggest otherwise. Airstrikes have continued across Ukrainian cities, leading to civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure. Russian leaders insist that any peace agreement must reflect their core strategic interests.
No Progress Toward Ceasefire Yet
Despite public discussions on diplomacy, there is no sign of formal talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Russia has not indicated any willingness to meet Trump’s timeline, and key Kremlin figures have dismissed external pressure as interference.
With tensions escalating and diplomatic avenues narrowing, hopes for a short-term ceasefire remain slim. Trump’s new deadline has added urgency to the situation, but so far, Russia’s stance shows no signs of softening.
