KLA Signs MoU For Semiconductor R&D Hub In Chennai

US semiconductor equipment company KLA has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Tamil Nadu government to establish a major research and development and innovation centre in Chennai, strengthening India’s semiconductor ecosystem.

The proposed project involves an investment of around ₹3,600 crore and will focus on semiconductor process technologies, inspection systems and engineering research. The facility will support product development, testing and collaboration with academic and industry partners.

Officials indicated the centre will work on advanced manufacturing solutions relevant to global chip production supply chains.

Chennai Semiconductor Research And Jobs

Authorities said the hub is expected to create high skill employment and support training programmes aligned with semiconductor industry requirements. The initiative is part of the state’s strategy to attract high technology investment and expand electronics manufacturing capabilities.

Local supplier networks in precision engineering and electronics services are also expected to benefit from the project.

India Semiconductor Ecosystem Expansion

The investment contributes to broader national efforts to strengthen chip design and semiconductor support infrastructure. Policymakers view research centres as essential to building long term competitiveness in electronics and advanced manufacturing sectors.
