North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has declared “unconditional support” for Russia’s actions in its war in Ukraine during a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Wonsan on July 12. This public statement signals a deepening military and strategic partnership between the two countries.

During the meeting, Kim expressed unwavering backing for all measures taken by Russia to address the Ukraine crisis. He described the two nations’ ties as a steadfast and faithful brotherhood, stating he trusts Russia will achieve its goals.
Lavrov’s Visit Strengthens Cooperation
Lavrov’s trip to North Korea, which spanned several days, focused on expanding strategic collaboration. Top-level discussions included military cooperation, economic agreements, and the 2024 defence treaty that outlines mutual defence obligations. The visit follows reports that North Korea has sent military personnel and ammunition to support Russia.
Troop Deployment and Arms Support
Reliable information indicates North Korea has dispatched thousands of soldiers—including combat troops and military engineers—to assist Russia. In return, it has reportedly provided artillery systems, ballistic missiles, and related hardware, furthering the scope of their shared military objectives.
