Kim Jong Un handed out the latest domestically produced sniper rifles as ceremonial gifts at the headquarters of the Workers’ Party of Korea’s Central Committee, describing them as a “wonderful weapon” and a symbol of trust. Recipients included members of the Central Military Commission, senior commanders of the Korean People’s Army and guard units, and Kim’s sister, Kim Yo Jong, now identified as director of the party’s General Affairs Department. The weapons were developed by the country’s Academy of Defence Science and distributed during the final days of the week-long party congress.

Photographs published by state media showed Kim Jong Un’s teenage daughter, Kim Ju Ae, holding and aiming one of the rifles at a firing range. Her presence at the ceremony and visibility in military-style imagery is notable; she has appeared at other high-profile events in recent months, prompting interest in her public profile. No formal party post has been announced for her, and North Korean party rules set age requirements for official positions.

Kim Yo Jong, the leader’s sister long seen as a key figure in the regime, was shown holding a rifle alongside other senior aides. Her official role as director of the General Affairs Department places her in a powerful party position amid continued consolidation of Kim Jong Un’s leadership at the congress’s conclusion.
