Kim Accuses US of Escalating Tensions, Warns of Nuclear War

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has accused the United States of escalating tensions on the Korean peninsula to unprecedented levels, claiming the region faces the gravest risk of nuclear war in history.

His remarks were delivered during a military exhibition in Pyongyang on Thursday, as reported by state media outlet KCNA.

“Unchanging Aggression” From the US

Kim criticized past negotiations with Washington, calling them fruitless and evidence of the US’s “aggressive and hostile” stance toward Pyongyang. He stated, “Never before have the warring parties on the Korean peninsula faced such a dangerous and acute confrontation that it could escalate into the most destructive thermonuclear war.”

The North Korean leader reflected on the series of summits held with former US President Donald Trump in 2018 and 2019, noting their failure to achieve tangible progress due to fundamental disagreements. While the US pushed for North Korea’s denuclearization, Kim demanded sanctions relief, leading to a diplomatic deadlock.

Bolstering Military Capabilities

At the Defence Development Exhibition, Kim vowed to enhance North Korea’s military capabilities, focusing on “ultra-modern” weaponry to strengthen the nation’s strategic position. The event showcased advanced tactical and strategic weapons, further underscoring North Korea’s intent to fortify its defense systems.

Rising Tensions Amid Deepening Alliances

Kim’s speech comes amid global criticism of North Korea’s increasing military cooperation with Russia. Reports suggest Pyongyang has sent over 10,000 troops to support Russia in its conflict with Ukraine. Kim also recently urged the North Korean military to enhance its warfighting capabilities, blaming the US and its allies for heightening tensions and labeling the Korean peninsula “the world’s biggest hotspot.”

As geopolitical tensions intensify, Kim’s latest remarks highlight the fragile state of peace in the region, drawing renewed international attention to North Korea’s nuclear ambitions and its strained relationship with the United States.
