Khamenei Rules Out Talks With US
Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has ruled out any direct negotiations with the United States over Tehran’s nuclear programme. He described such talks as a “dead end” and accused the U.S. of making demands amounting to bullying.
Iran’s Nuclear Position Reiterated
Khamenei reaffirmed that Iran does not intend to develop nuclear weapons, citing a long-standing fatwa prohibiting them. He said Iran will continue enriching uranium for peaceful purposes, but will not yield to external pressures or demands to defund its nuclear work.
Sanctions And Diplomatic Pressure
His remarks come as Western powers prepare to reimpose United Nations sanctions via the “snapback” mechanism under the 2015 JCPOA framework. Allies led by the UK, France, and Germany initiated the process, demanding Iran resume full cooperation with the IAEA and reverse nuclear escalation.
Diplomatic Efforts Continue
While Khamenei dismissed U.S. engagement, Iran’s delegation in New York is still engaged in talks with European powers exploring a last-minute deal to stall sanctions. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reiterated at the U.N. that Iran “will never seek” to build a nuclear bomb, in an effort to assuage fears.
