Khalistani Extremists Attempt to Attack EAM Jaishankar in London; Indian Flag Desecrated
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar faced a security incident in London when Khalistani extremists attempted to attack him as he departed from an event at Chatham House. A video circulating online shows a man running towards Jaishankar’s vehicle and tearing the Indian national flag in front of London police officers, who appeared unresponsive.
The incident occurred during Jaishankar’s official visit to the UK, aimed at strengthening the India-UK strategic partnership. Pro-Khalistan supporters were seen holding flags and staging a protest outside the venue where Jaishankar participated in a discussion.
This event is part of a series of incidents involving Khalistani extremists targeting Indian officials and symbols abroad. In March 2023, the Indian High Commission in the UK was attacked by pro-Khalistan supporters, who attempted to pull down the Indian national flag. Similar attacks have occurred in other countries, including the United States and Canada, raising concerns about the safety of Indian diplomatic missions and officials.
The Indian government has consistently condemned these acts and urged host countries to take appropriate measures to ensure the security of its diplomats and premises. External Affairs Minister Jaishankar has previously criticized the space given to extremist Khalistani elements in foreign countries, stating that such actions are a misuse of freedom of speech.
The recent incident in London underscores the ongoing challenges posed by extremist groups and highlights the need for enhanced security measures to protect diplomatic personnel and facilities abroad.
