Kerala Rain Alert: Yellow Warning in 3 Districts

Isolated showers and thunderstorms are likely across parts of Kerala on February 22, with the India Meteorological Department issuing a Yellow Alert for three districts. The advisory comes amid changing weather conditions influenced by a developing system over the Bay region, increasing moisture inflow into the state.

Kerala Rain Forecast for February 22

The IMD has forecast isolated heavy rainfall in parts of south and central Kerala. A Yellow Alert has been issued for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Idukki districts for February 22. The alert indicates the possibility of heavy rainfall ranging between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within 24 hours at isolated locations.

Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are also expected in several other districts. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kmph are likely in some areas.

Low Pressure System Influencing Kerala Weather

The current weather pattern is linked to a low pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining regions. The associated cyclonic circulation is drawing moisture towards Kerala, leading to unstable atmospheric conditions.

Weather models indicate that the system may gradually weaken after February 23, which could reduce rainfall intensity across the state.

Advisory for Residents and Fishermen

Authorities have advised residents in hilly and low-lying areas to remain cautious due to the risk of localized heavy rainfall. Temporary waterlogging and reduced visibility are possible in affected districts.

Fishermen have been urged to monitor official marine bulletins before venturing into the sea, as gusty winds may cause rough conditions along parts of the Kerala coast.
