Karnataka Launches New IT Policy Targeting Expat Talent
The state government of Karnataka has introduced an updated Information Technology Policy for 2025–30 with a special focus on attracting Indian tech professionals working abroad. The so-called “IT Talent Return Programme” aims to provide incentives and support for mid-career professionals overseas to relocate back and work in the state.
Ambitious Job Creation Goal
Under the new policy, Karnataka aims to generate approximately 90 lakh jobs in the IT and technology sectors over the policy period. The announcement comes amid global layoffs in the IT industry and uncertainty over visa norms in the U.S., making the return-opportunity more timely. The incentives include relocation support, tax benefits, and career reintegration measures for returning professionals.
Strategic Move Amid Global Tech Shift
The push signals Karnataka’s ambition to remain competitive in the global technology landscape and to leverage both its existing ecosystem and diaspora talent. By bringing back experienced tech professionals and creating wide-scale employment plans, the government hopes to reinforce Karnataka’s status as a leading IT hub beyond Bengaluru and support growth across tier-II and tier-III cities.
