Karnataka Congress Crisis Deepens Ahead Of Key Meet

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has invited Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar for a breakfast meeting in Bengaluru following instructions from the Congress high command. The move comes amid rising tensions between the two leaders over an alleged power-sharing agreement linked to the 2023 assembly victory.

High Command Steps In To Contain Rift

Congress general secretary K.C. Venugopal has urged both leaders to avoid public statements and resolve differences internally. He warned that their ongoing exchanges were damaging the party’s image. Both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar have reportedly agreed to abide by whatever decision the central leadership takes.

Rotational CM Pact At Centre Of Dispute

Supporters of Shivakumar insist there was a 2.5-year rotational Chief Minister arrangement, which would require Siddaramaiah to step aside midway through the term. Siddaramaiah’s camp denies any such pact. The disagreement has widened internal divisions, with factional groups pressuring the high command for clarity.

Next Steps Could Decide Karnataka Leadership

Following the meeting, both leaders are expected to be called to Delhi. A final decision on whether the leadership will change — or remain as is — may be taken soon. Political observers warn that if unresolved, the crisis could benefit the opposition, which is already weighing a no-confidence motion.
