Home Minister G Parameshwara justified the decision by pointing to the rising cost of living. “We are also human beings. We too need to survive,” he said, defending the need for lawmakers to receive salaries that reflect economic realities. He clarified that the proposal emerged from requests by several legislators and was taken up with the Chief Minister for implementation.

He proposed a more modest increase of 10-20%, acknowledging that while lawmakers do require a stable income to meet expenses, the revised figures may be hard to justify during a time of economic stress.
