Jyothi Yarraji Leads Six-Gold Haul at Taiwan Open

India’s track and field contingent delivered a commanding performance on Day 1 of the Taiwan Athletics Open, securing six gold medals and showcasing growing depth in sprints, hurdles, and middle-distance events.

Jyothi Yarraji Dominates 100m Hurdles

Star hurdler Jyothi Yarraji continued her golden run, clinching the 100m hurdles title with a brilliant time of 12.99 seconds. The 25-year-old surged ahead in the final 20 meters of the race after clocking 13.18 seconds in the heats, becoming the only athlete to breach the 13-second barrier in the final. This performance builds on her previous successes, including her Asian Championship gold earlier this year, where she posted a near-identical time of 12.96 seconds.

Yarraji, India’s national record holder in the 100m hurdles with a time of 12.78 seconds, has now firmly cemented her place as one of Asia’s elite athletes. Her dominance continues to inspire India’s growing presence in women’s sprint hurdles on the global stage.

Other Indian Medal Winners

India’s medal haul was bolstered by stellar performances across various disciplines:

  • Tejas Shirse claimed gold in the men’s 110m hurdles with a strong 13.52-second finish, his season’s best performance so far.
  • The men’s 4×100m relay team comprising Gurindervir Singh, Animesh Kujur, Manikanta Hoblidhar, and Amlan Borgohain clocked an impressive 38.75 seconds, narrowly missing the national record by just 0.06 seconds.
  • The women’s 4×100m relay team — Sudheeksha Vadluri, Sneha Sathyanarayana Shanuvalli, Abinaya Rajarajan, and Nithya Gandhe — raced to victory in 44.06 seconds, setting a new meet record in the process.
  • Pooja added another gold for India in the women’s 1500m, finishing in 4 minutes and 11.63 seconds.
  • In field events, Abdulla Aboobacker leaped to gold in the men’s triple jump with a distance of 16.21 meters.

India’s Outlook Brightens

This performance not only demonstrates India’s rising talent across multiple disciplines but also signals strong preparations ahead of upcoming global meets. The consistency shown by top athletes like Yarraji and Shirse, combined with the promising depth in relay teams, places India in a formidable position heading into international competition season.

With six gold medals already in the bag, India’s athletics contingent has made a resounding statement in Taiwan — one of intent, momentum, and growing excellence on the Asian circuit.
