JSW to Launch ₹10 Lakh EV, Boosting India’s EV Ambitions

JSW Group is preparing to launch a mass-market electric vehicle priced around ₹10–12 lakh by early 2027. The announcement marks a significant step in India’s transition toward affordable electric mobility and positions JSW as a key player in the evolving EV landscape. The information has been reported by The Financial Express.

₹10 Lakh EV

Parth Jindal, Managing Director of JSW Cement and JSW Paints, confirmed that the company is developing a compact EV that will be priced in the ₹10–12 lakh range. The first model is scheduled for launch in the first half of 2027. Additionally, JSW is working on a larger SUV that will be offered in electric, hybrid, and ICE variants.

₹10,000 Crore Plant

To support its automotive ambitions, JSW is investing ₹10,000 crore in a new manufacturing facility at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. This plant will be used to produce both passenger vehicles under the JSW brand and commercial vehicles under a licensed global OEM partnership. Commercial vehicle production is expected to begin by mid-2026.

Strategic Partnerships

JSW is also expanding its stake in JSW MG Motor India, in partnership with SAIC Motor. The company has secured technology collaboration with a major Chinese OEM, which will support both passenger and commercial EV development through licensing and joint platforms.

Range & Localisation

The company has already demonstrated strong EV range—400 km for the 53 kWh variant and 330 km for the 38 kWh Windsor. Localisation has improved significantly, rising from 27% to 67%, with a goal of achieving 85% localisation (excluding motors and battery cells) by mid‑2026.

EV Market Outlook

Currently, over 80% of JSW MG Motor’s sales are electric. The new affordable EV model aims to widen accessibility and establish JSW as a leading contributor to India’s clean mobility goals.
