JSW Group, POSCO Sign MoU for Integrated Steel Plant in India

JSW Group has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with South Korea’s POSCO Group to establish an integrated steel plant in India.

The plant, which will have an initial production capacity of 5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), marks a significant collaboration between the two companies in advancing steel production, battery materials, and renewable energy sectors.

Focus on Steel, EVs, and Renewable Energy

Under this partnership, JSW and POSCO aim to develop sustainable growth opportunities in India’s steel industry. The collaboration will explore new avenues in electric vehicle (EV) battery materials and renewable energy sources to meet the energy needs of the proposed steel plant.

The MoU, signed at JSW Group’s headquarters in Mumbai, highlights the growing importance of sustainability in industrial development. According to JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal, the partnership aligns with India’s rapid economic growth and the country’s efforts to boost its steel production while enhancing eco-friendly manufacturing practices.

Driving Sustainable Growth in India

The project will also contribute to the establishment of an EV ecosystem in India, strengthening the country’s renewable energy capabilities. POSCO Chairman Chang In-hwa expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, emphasizing the shared goal of promoting sustainable economic growth in both Korea and India.

With this joint venture, JSW and POSCO aim to set new standards in technology, sustainability, and innovation, shaping the future of the steel manufacturing industry in India.
