JK Police Arrests Pulwama Electrician in Red Fort Blast Probe
The Jammu and Kashmir Police’s State Investigation Agency (SIA) has made a new arrest in the probe linked to the car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort on November 10, which killed at least ten people. The latest person taken into custody is 34-year-old electrician Tufail Niyaz Bhat from Pulwama district. His detention follows fresh leads connecting him to a so-called “white-collar” terror module said to be involved in the plot.
Role Under Investigation
Officials say Bhat, who works as an electrician, was arrested from an industrial estate in Pulwama and is now under questioning. Investigators claim evidence suggests his involvement in planning or facilitating the operation, although his exact role has not yet been publicly disclosed. Authorities are examining how he fits into the broader network of professionals, including doctors and engineers, alleged to have supported the terror module.
“White-Collar” Module and Probe Status
The terror network under scrutiny is thought to include a core group of medical and technical professionals from Jammu & Kashmir and adjoining regions who allegedly provided support, funds and logistics for the blast at the Red Fort. So far, multiple arrests have been made, and large quantities of explosives and communication equipment have been seized in raids in Faridabad and other locations. The SIA said it would continue bringing more suspects into custody as the investigation progresses.
Implications and Next Steps
Bhat’s arrest underscores the widening nature of the investigation beyond the immediate blast scene and points to the possibility of a larger, more sophisticated support structure behind the explosion. This development raises fresh questions about oversight of professionals and monitoring of industrial estates in Jammu & Kashmir. Authorities say they will now seek to determine Bhat’s specific remit, contact links, financial trail and operational contribution to the module. Once the charges are formalised, further legal action is expected under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
