J&K LG Terminates Two Teachers over Terror Links

In a sharp move, Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, has terminated two government employees—both teachers from the Education Department—on grounds of alleged involvement with the militant group Lashkar‑e‑Taiba (LeT). The decision was approved under Article 311 of the Constitution, which allows immediate dismissal in the interest of security.

Details of the Alleged Links

The first employee, Ghulam Hussain from Reasi district, is accused of collaborating with LeT operatives and building a support network, including funding terrorist families and receiving instructions for attacks. The second individual, Majid Iqbal Dar of Rajouri district, is alleged to have taken delivery of an improvised explosive device (IED) and cash from a LeT handler based in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, then transported and planted the IED near a branch of J&K Bank to inflict civilian casualties.

Strategic Implications

This action reflects the Union Territory’s ongoing zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism and its ecosystem within government. Officials say such dismissals send a message that alleged links to terrorist activities will result in swift accountability. Political opposition has raised concerns about transparency and due process in the dismissals.
