JD(U) Backs NDA’s Vice President Candidate C.P. Radhakrishnan
Janata Dal (United) president and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced that his party will support C.P. Radhakrishnan, the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) nominee for the upcoming Vice-Presidential election. Kumar also extended his best wishes to Radhakrishnan, describing his candidature as “welcomed.” With this, JD(U)’s MPs from both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha are expected to cast their votes in his favor.
Boost for NDA in Vice Presidential Polls
The endorsement from JD(U) strengthens the NDA’s position in the electoral college. JD(U) holds 12 MPs in the Lok Sabha and four MPs in the Rajya Sabha. Their collective backing provides a decisive edge to the ruling alliance. The Vice Presidential election, scheduled for September 9, 2025, follows the resignation of incumbent Jagdeep Dhankhar.
Profile of C.P. Radhakrishnan
C.P. Radhakrishnan is a senior BJP leader from Tamil Nadu who is currently serving as the Governor of Maharashtra. He has previously held leadership positions in the BJP’s Tamil Nadu unit and represented Coimbatore in the Lok Sabha. Known for his clean and non-controversial political record, his nomination reflects the NDA’s strategy to project a balanced and widely acceptable candidate.
Opposition’s Next Move
While the INDIA bloc has yet to finalize its candidate, Radhakrishnan’s backing from JD(U) signals that the NDA has consolidated its strength well ahead of the contest. Unless the opposition unites around a strong nominee, the NDA is poised for a comfortable win.
