Jayant Chaudhary Confirms RLD Will Contest 2027 UP Polls with BJP

Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) president and Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary has clarified that his party will definitely contest the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections in alliance with the BJP. Addressing speculation of a split, Chaudhary emphasized there is “no question” of breaking ties within the BJP-led coalition, adding that the RLD remains a key part of the state government and its cabinet framework.

He highlighted RLD’s active participation in state governance, including sharing responsibility for various development initiatives. Chaudhary praised recent efforts such as a large-scale police recruitment drive and educational infrastructure upgrades under the Kayakalp scheme, calling them “progressive steps in the right direction.” He attributed such achievements to effective coordination between the RLD and BJP.

RLD Alliance with BJP

Chaudhary firmly dismissed any rumors about ideological rifts with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, stating differences of opinion on governance issues—such as policies affecting the Muslim community—are natural within any coalition. He stated:

“Even if you are related as a family member, there will be points of convergence and points of divergence.”

Still, he expressed respect for Adityanath’s leadership and reinforced that both parties are united in their shared aim for UP’s development.

Governance and Reforms Lauded

The RLD chief applauded the state government’s administrative efforts, including a major overhaul in police recruitment and overhauling infrastructure in government schools via the Kayakalp scheme. He described these as clear indicators of meaningful progress derived from the RLD–BJP partnership.

Broader Political Vision

In the broader national political context, Chaudhary has recently praised Congress MP Shashi Tharoor for his role in ongoing diplomatic engagements and reaffirmed the importance of judging political alliances—be it NDA or opposition coalitions—on their vision and implementation record rather than rhetoric alone. He also highlighted the Centre’s strong outreach to India’s Northeast region, detailing initiatives implemented in partnership with various ministries.

Looking Ahead to 2027

The 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, scheduled for February–March, will be a key contest for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance in its bid to retain power. With the RLD firmly committed to the coalition, the BJP alliance hopes to leverage combined strengths across western UP’s agrarian heartlands and beyond.
