Jammu Records 2nd-Highest August Rainfall in a Century

Jammu city recorded 190.4 mm of rainfall in 24 hours, the second-highest single-day August rainfall in nearly a century. The record remains 228.6 mm, logged on August 5, 1926.

Flood-Like Situation

The heavy rain triggered flash flood-like conditions across parts of Jammu. A bridge on the Jammu–Pathankot National Highway was damaged, affecting road traffic. Waterlogging was reported in low-lying areas, prompting immediate deployment of relief teams.

Wider Regional Impact

Districts including Kathua, Samba, Reasi, and Udhampur also faced severe rainfall. Rivers such as the Ujh, Basantar, and Chenab swelled beyond danger levels, raising the risk of floods. Disaster response teams were stationed in sensitive locations to manage any emergencies.

Emergency Measures

Authorities ordered the closure of all schools in the region on Monday as a safety measure. Power supply was hit in several areas after substations were flooded. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah directed departments to stay on high alert and activated control rooms to monitor the situation.
