Jalisco New Generation Cartel Leader El Mencho Killed

Mexican security forces have killed Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, widely known as “El Mencho”, the long-time leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), during a military operation in the western state of Jalisco. Authorities said the operation targeted the cartel chief in a rural area, marking one of the most significant blows against organised crime groups in recent years.

El Mencho Killed In Jalisco Operation

According to officials, the army launched an operation aimed at apprehending the CJNG leader in Jalisco. During the confrontation, Oseguera Cervantes was fatally wounded. He had been one of Mexico’s most wanted fugitives for years, facing multiple charges related to drug trafficking, organised crime and violence. International authorities had also placed a substantial reward for information leading to his capture. His death represents a major development in Mexico’s long-running fight against powerful drug cartels.

Violence Reported After CJNG Leader’s Death

In the aftermath of the operation, several regions reported retaliatory acts attributed to cartel members. Authorities said vehicles were set on fire and road blockades were erected in parts of Jalisco and neighbouring states. Security forces were deployed in large numbers to restore order and prevent further escalation. Some local administrations temporarily suspended classes and advised residents to limit movement as a precaution.

Impact On Jalisco New Generation Cartel

The CJNG has grown into one of Mexico’s most influential criminal organisations, involved in trafficking synthetic drugs, cocaine and other narcotics. Analysts suggest that the death of its leader could lead to internal power struggles or fragmentation within the group. Mexican authorities said security operations will continue to stabilise affected areas and prevent further violence linked to cartel activity.
