Jake Sullivan: Trump Sacrificed India Ties for Pakistan Deals
Former U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan has alleged that Donald Trump weakened America’s long-standing strategic partnership with India to advance his family’s business interests in Pakistan. Sullivan described this as a “huge strategic harm,” stressing that India is vital for U.S. goals in technology, regional balance, and global partnerships.
Pakistan Business Ties at Odds with U.S. Strategy
Sullivan claimed Trump’s shift toward Pakistan was not guided by American national interest but by business opportunities for his family. He warned that such favoritism risked damaging U.S. credibility worldwide, with allies questioning Washington’s reliability and seeking alternatives in their global alignments.
Fallout from Tariffs and Diminished Influence
The former NSA also criticized Trump’s tariff-heavy approach, saying it undercut U.S. influence in Asia. According to Sullivan, prioritizing Pakistan while straining ties with India could push New Delhi closer to Beijing, undermining U.S. efforts to build a coalition in the Indo-Pacific. He emphasized that such policies weakened America’s ability to lead effectively on global issues.
