Jaishankar Warns Poland Against Supporting Terror Infrastructure
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has delivered a firm diplomatic message to Poland, urging it to show “zero tolerance” for terrorism and not take actions that could fuel terrorist infrastructure in India’s neighbourhood. He made the remarks during a meeting in New Delhi with Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski.
Concerns Over Regional Security
Jaishankar highlighted the longstanding challenge of cross-border terrorism faced by India and said Poland, given its engagements in South Asia, should be mindful of the impact of its diplomatic choices. His comments are understood to be linked to perceived signals from Warsaw’s past joint statements involving Pakistan that referenced sensitive regional issues.
Broader Issues Raised
The Indian minister also voiced concern about what he described as “selective targeting” of India by Western states over geopolitical issues, including criticism of India’s foreign policy choices. Sikorski acknowledged the need to counter terrorism and expressed understanding of some Indian concerns during the talks.
Bilateral Ties
Despite the pointed remarks, both sides stressed the importance of strong India-Poland relations, noting cooperation in trade, investment, defence and technology. The meeting reflects ongoing diplomatic engagement amid broader discussions on regional security and international cooperation.
