Jaishankar Slams State-Backed Terror at UN

At the 80th United Nations General Assembly, India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar asserted that a “nation openly declares terror as state policy,” in a clear rebuke of Pakistan. He called such actions unacceptable and insisted that terrorism must be confronted firmly.

Alleged Role of Pakistan

While not naming Pakistan directly, Jaishankar accused a neighbouring country of acting as the “epicentre of global terrorism.” He linked that with recent attacks, including the Pahalgam terror attack in Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives, and labeled it “barbaric.”

Demand for Accountability

Jaishankar called for tighter global measures against the financing, support, and operation of terror groups. He urged the UN and member states to close gaps in oversight and ensure no state provides impunity for terror. He also questioned the effectiveness of existing institutions in preventing violence.

Broader Global Concerns

In the speech, Jaishankar also addressed trade tensions, tariff wars, and the need for institutional reforms within the UN system. He stressed that the fight against terrorism must go hand in hand with fairness in trade and stronger multilateral cooperation.

This address underlines India’s firm stance that any state supporting or facilitating terror acts must be held responsible, and international mechanisms must enforce accountability.
