Jaishankar: PoK Vacating Key to Resolving Kashmir Issue
External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar has reiterated India’s firm position that the resolution of the Kashmir issue depends on Pakistan vacating Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). His remarks emphasize India’s longstanding stance on territorial integrity and sovereignty while addressing concerns over cross-border terrorism.
Jaishankar’s Stand on PoK
During his recent address, Jaishankar stressed that the only unresolved matter regarding Kashmir is Pakistan’s continued occupation of PoK. He asserted that “if Pakistan vacates PoK, the Kashmir issue will be resolved.” India has consistently maintained that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of the country and that Pakistan’s occupation of PoK is illegal.
Jaishankar also pointed out that Pakistan’s policies have led to its internal struggles, stating that nations that promote instability and terrorism ultimately face repercussions of their own actions. He reaffirmed that terrorism as a policy tool will not succeed and warned that “actions have consequences.”
Response to Pakistan’s Remarks
Jaishankar’s statement comes in response to Pakistan raising the Kashmir issue on international platforms. In his remarks, he dismissed Pakistan’s claims and reaffirmed that the abrogation of Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, was an internal matter. He also highlighted that India has made significant strides in development and governance in the region post the constitutional changes.
Strengthening India’s Global Stance
Jaishankar’s remarks underline India’s proactive approach in global diplomacy, reinforcing its commitment to safeguarding national security and countering narratives that seek to undermine its sovereignty. India’s firm stance on PoK reflects its policy of engaging in dialogue only when core issues of sovereignty and cross-border terrorism are addressed.
With tensions between the two neighbors persisting, India’s message remains clear: any resolution to the Kashmir dispute must begin with Pakistan withdrawing from occupied territories and ceasing support for terrorism. Jaishankar’s remarks further solidify India’s position on the international stage, emphasizing peace through rightful territorial claims and strategic security measures.
