Jaishankar Meets Rubio, Congratulates US Condolence Gesture

India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the sidelines of the Group of Seven (G7) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Canada. Jaishankar thanked Rubio for his expression of condolences over the recent explosion near New Delhi’s Red Fort that killed multiple people, describing the gesture as a symbol of strong diplomatic ties.

Discussions Cover Broader Agenda

In addition to sharing views on the explosion, the two leaders discussed their countries’ bilateral relationship, including trade, supply chains and regional security dynamics across the Indo-Pacific. Jaishankar posted on X that he, “appreciate[d] his condolences on the loss of lives in the blast in Delhi… discussed our bilateral ties, focusing on trade and supply chains and exchanged views on the Ukraine conflict, the Middle East/West Asia situation and Indo-Pacific.”

The explosion near Red Fort has been officially treated as a terror incident by Indian authorities, prompting heightened alerts across the capital region. During the meeting, Rubio commended India’s “measured, cautious and very professional” handling of the investigation and stated that while the U.S. had offered assistance, Indian agencies appeared “very capable” on their own. The public acknowledgement from Washington signals deepening strategic cooperation and mutual support in counter-terror and diplomatic arenas.
